Before we look at the chapel from the transept, we pass the ‘Pieta`’, which shows the moment at which our Lady took the dead body of her son into her arms before He was buried. It is Italian in origin, dating from 1931, and is similar in conception to the famous statue carved from marble by the young Michelangelo, which stands in St Peter’s in Rome.​
