FIRST SATURDAYS

The devotion of the First Saturdays in honour of the Immaculate Heart of Mary has started in our Parish in January. It will take place on the first Saturdays after the 5pm Mass – the next one will be on 1st April 2023. After the final blessing, the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed, the Rosary will be prayed and 15-minute meditation will be read/played. It will conclude with Benediction. There will be an opportunity for Confessions, apart from usual morning times on Fridays and Saturdays, on the first Saturdays 30 minutes before the evening Mass. More details about this devotion and required conditions can be found here.

DAYS OF RECOLLECTION
Picture
An opportunity to have a day of recollection at the Convent of the Sisters of Mercy at Handsworth, Birmingham, will be on Tuesday 25th April 2023. The day will include a talk, Rosary, Mass, lunch, a tour of the Convent and Holy Hour. Departure will be around 8:45am from our Church, returning at approx. 5pm. The cost of £25 will include the tram fare, lunch and a donation to the upkeep of the Convent. If you wish to join us, please put your name down in the Sacristy and pay the full amount by Sunday 16th April.
An opportunity to have a day of recollection in our Parish will be on Saturday 25th March, which is the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord. We will begin with Mass at 10:30, followed by recitation of the Rosary and an opportunity for Confession. Afterwards, we will move to the Parish Hall for talks, a packed lunch and a Q&A session. The day will conclude with the Holy Hour in Church. Please see the posters for more details and talk topics. The day will be led by Fr Marco Egawhary, assistant priest from Newcastle-under-Lyme, who studied at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome. If you wish to join us, please put your name down in the Sacristy by Sunday 19th March. A suggested donation of £5 to cover Fr Marco’s travel expenses would be appreciated. We look forward to spending this joyful day in Lent together.

BEHAVIOUR IN CHURCH

It is heartening to see parishioners obey God’s command to ‘Keep holy the Sabbath’ and answer His invitation to celebrate the Eucharist in the holy Mass.
Jesus said: ‘Let the children come to me’
so it is also pleasing to have many children attend.
However, with regret,
a reminder of the standards of behaviour within church has become necessary.

"A volunteer is a person who believes that people can make a difference - and is willing to prove it" - anonymous

Since 1855, SS. Mary and John's Church has served as a witness to the Catholic Faith in the heart of the City of Wolverhampton. As a Parish with such a rich heritage, our Community continues this witness today. Going forward, our vibrant, multicultural congregation truly reflects the Universal nature of the Catholic Church. Holy Mass is celebrated here every day by the Pauline Fathers (OSPPE), who faithfully serve our Parish. Visitors and new Parishioners are always welcome and we look forward to seeing you in our Church.
