26 Sacred Heart Chapel

We turn into the first chapel, corresponding to the Lady chapel on the other side of the Sanctuary, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which is the source of His infinite love for us as God made man. Here the altar was replaced in the 1960’s with a freestanding marble altar. Behind the altar the original glass shows some of the events in our Lord’s final days, illustrating the love of His Sacred Heart: the Agony in the Garden of Gethsemane; the Last Supper; and the appearance of the risen Christ to St Mary Magdalene, when she took Him to be the gardener.
